The solar rebate QLD households can access depends on the property and installation. As checked on 2 November 2026, eligible solar panels and batteries receive federal certificate-based support, while eligible landlords can receive up to $3,500 through Queensland's Supercharged Solar for Renters program. Feed-in tariffs are separate payments for exported electricity, not installation rebates.

At a glance

  • Queensland owner-occupiers can access eligible federal solar and battery support; the rental-property rebate is not a general homeowner payment.
  • Supercharged Solar for Renters offers $2,500–$3,500, depending on eligible system capacity and actual cost.
  • The federal battery factor is 6.8 for May–December 2026 and 5.7 for January–June 2027, with capacity tapering explained below.
  • Regional Queensland's standard regulated feed-in tariff differs from South East Queensland's retailer offers and the closed-to-new-customers 44c scheme.

Which solar rebate QLD programs should you compare?

Separate the upfront purchase support from the electricity plan you will use afterwards.

The Australian Government's Solar Consumer Guide explains the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). Eligible installations create small-scale technology certificates (STCs), which can be assigned to an agent in exchange for an upfront discount.

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program also operates through the SRES. It is different from Queensland's former Battery Booster program, recorded as closed in QRIDA's 2024–25 annual report. Do not budget for that old state rebate using an undated advertisement.

Our Australian solar rebates guide provides the national context. This Queensland guide focuses on choosing the correct pathway rather than adding unrelated headline incentives together.

How does the federal solar discount work in Queensland?

The certificate entitlement depends on the eligible system, location and installation date, rather than one fixed Queensland dollar amount.

The Clean Energy Regulator's calculation guidance sets a five-year deeming period for small-scale solar installed in 2026, falling to four years in 2027. This is the period used to calculate supported generation, not a guarantee of your system's output or warranty length.

Use the regulator's calculator with your actual postcode and proposed system. Ask the installer to show the certificate count, dollar value allowed for each certificate and any administration deduction. A reduction in certificate entitlement does not establish a guaranteed annual fall in the market price of each certificate.

Qualifying equipment and installation matter too: the government guide requires approved panels and inverters and a Solar Accreditation Australia accredited installer. Compare the full installed price including GST, then the itemised STC discount and final payable balance. Do not subtract support again from a price already described as after STCs.

What battery support is available for Queensland homes?

Eligible Queensland batteries can receive federal support whether the associated solar is new or already installed.

The regulator's current battery rules require eligible equipment, compliant installation and the appropriate accredited installer. Grid-connected battery systems must be capable of participating in a virtual power plant (VPP); check any separate commercial VPP contract rather than assuming every offer has identical conditions.

For grid-connected homes, only one battery system per National Metering Identifier can receive STCs; off-grid eligibility is assessed per dwelling. Disclose previous battery claims before accepting an estimate. Panel STCs are separate from battery claims.

For May–December 2026, the 6.8 factor applies at 100% to the first 14 kWh of usable capacity, 60% to the portion above 14 through 28 kWh, and 15% to the portion above 28 through 50 kWh. Larger storage does not receive the full factor across every kWh.

The factor changes to 5.7 for January–June 2027. Ask the installer to confirm the applicable installation requirements and timing; a signed quote alone does not establish entitlement to an earlier factor. Our battery retrofit guide covers equipment compatibility and backup checks.

Who can claim Supercharged Solar for Renters?

Qualifying landlords, rather than tenants or ordinary owner-occupiers, apply for this Queensland rebate.

The maintained program pages offer applications on a first-in, first-served basis, with closure dates to be announced. Check availability again before committing: reading an open application pathway is not a reservation of funding.

The eligibility requirements include an individually owned eligible Queensland rental, tenant consent, separate electricity metering and rent of $1,000 or less per week. Eligible building types include houses, duplexes and townhouses; ordinary apartments classified as Class 2 are excluded.

At final application, the qualifying fixed-term lease must have at least eight months remaining. Rent must not increase immediately after installation or during that remaining lease period, including a tenant change. Embedded-network properties and those with existing solar are excluded; a broken system can be removed before applying. Approved sellers and products are required, plus a generation signalling device regardless of system size. Read the full applicant guideline.

The rebate is $2,500 for capacity of at least 3 kW but below 4 kW, $3,000 for at least 4 kW but below 5 kW, and $3,500 for 5 kW or more. Capacity means the lower of total panel capacity and inverter capacity, and payment cannot exceed the actual system cost including GST.

The application instructions require conditional approval before installation. You then have 150 days from the conditional approval letter to complete the required lease, installation, connection, payment and final application steps. Queensland permits combining this rebate with eligible federal support, but each scheme's requirements still apply.

How do Queensland feed-in tariffs differ?

Your location and eligibility determine the relevant tariff, so there is no single statewide export rate for every solar buyer.

In South East Queensland, retailers voluntarily offer different rates. Compare supply charges, import rates and any export conditions, not just the largest feed-in headline.

For eligible regional customers, the QCA's 2026–27 determination remains in effect. Ergon Energy Retail independently confirms 6.006c/kWh from 1 July 2026. This is not a guaranteed retailer offer for Brisbane.

The 44c Solar Bonus Scheme is closed to new customers. Eligible existing recipients can retain it until its expiry on 1 July 2028, subject to continuing conditions. If you receive it, check with your distributor before changing the inverter, panels or battery arrangements.

What must Energex or Ergon approve before installation?

Network approval is a separate requirement from rebate eligibility, and it should be settled before installation.

Queensland's connection guidance requires an approved network connection agreement first. Energex serves South East Queensland; confirm the relevant distributor for a regional property rather than treating every Queensland address as Energex territory.

Review Energex's dynamic connection information with your installer. Ask which connection arrangement is proposed, what equipment and communications it requires, and what happens if communications fail. Do not assume unlimited exports.

The inverter's capacity, panel capacity and permitted export are different design quantities. Have the installer document each, together with metering work and any generation signalling device requirement. An eligible rebate does not override the connection offer or establish that all generated electricity can be exported.

What does a Brisbane battery calculation show?

An illustrative certificate calculation shows why support and the final dollar discount should be kept separate.

Assume a hypothetical Brisbane home installs a fully eligible battery with 10 kWh usable capacity, with no previous battery STC claim. This is not a customer result, equipment recommendation or installed-price example.

  1. Installation in November 2026: 10 × 6.8 = 68 STCs.
  2. Equivalent eligible installation in February 2027: 10 × 5.7 = 57 STCs.
  3. Difference: 68 − 57 = 11 STCs.

Both examples fall entirely within the first capacity tier. The difference is in certificates, not a verified dollar saving or a reason to rush an unsuitable installation. No certificate market price, supplier availability, household bill saving or payback period is assumed.

What should you check on your quote?

Request the same complete scope from every installer so rebates do not hide differences between offers.

  • Support: separate solar STCs, battery STCs, any rental-property rebate and commercial discounts.
  • Eligibility: record exact equipment, accreditation, prior claims and required approvals.
  • Connection: specify the distributor, export arrangement, metering and communications responsibilities.
  • Payment: show GST, exclusions and who receives each rebate; do not assume every program is an immediate discount.
  • Handover: request commissioning records, monitoring access, warranty terms and the service contact.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the QLD solar rebate?

There is no single dollar amount for every Queensland household. Federal solar support depends on certificate entitlement and the discount offered. Eligible landlords can receive $2,500–$3,500 under Supercharged Solar for Renters, subject to capacity, cost and other requirements. Keep ongoing feed-in tariff credits separate from installation support.

Is there a government solar rebate in Queensland in 2026?

Yes. Eligible Queensland installations can receive federal certificate-based solar support, and eligible rental properties can qualify for Queensland's landlord rebate. Battery support has its own federal requirements. As checked on 2 November 2026, the rental program provides an application pathway, but applicants must obtain conditional approval before installation.

Is the 44 cent solar rebate still available in Queensland?

It is not available to new customers. The 44c Solar Bonus Scheme is an export tariff for eligible existing recipients, not a new-installation rebate. Continuing eligibility matters, including restrictions on equipment and account changes. Ask your distributor before upgrading if you currently receive it; the published expiry is 1 July 2028.

Who is eligible for a solar battery rebate in Queensland?

Eligible households installing a qualifying battery with new or existing solar can access the federal program. Equipment, installation, usable capacity and previous claims must be checked. Grid-connected battery systems must be VPP-capable. Queensland's former Battery Booster program should not be confused with current federal support when reviewing a quote.
