Bill Shorten is set to unveil some massive news this weekend at the Australian Labour Party national conference. Bill Shorten is to unveil his plans to cut the consumption of coal and increase renewable energy target to 50% by 2030, and he is confident to bring to light come this weekend at the Australian Labour Party national conference in Melbourne.
Mr Shorten stated that the policy will open doors for the milder carbon emissions trading scheme to suppress climate change in the country. This is in opposition to Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s agenda to make coal a major power source, which could heighten climate change. This new agenda indicates a more-than-doubling of the renewable energy sector in within 15 years.
This agenda by Mr Shorten follows a well-planned campaign within the Australian Labor Party, dubbed “Environment Action Network and backing a "50/50" campaign in favour of 50 per cent renewable energy by 2030”.
Bill Shorten reveal his intentions when confronted by Fairfax Media, describing his new policy as “the centre-piece of our response to the challenge of climate change".
"Labor's ambition is to see 50 per cent of our electricity energy mix generated by renewable energy by 2030," Mr Short indicated. "We will take steps to reduce pollution, and we will not be intimidated by ridiculous scare campaigns. "Let me make this clear: Labor will not introduce a carbon tax [but] we will have sensible policies designed to reduce pollution over time, with minimal impact on households and businesses."
Mr Bill Shorten has ignored the re-establishment of a fixed carbon tax rate, which enhanced ALP to cop a huge vote during the 2013 federal election.
Mark Butler, Labor environment and climate change spokesman stated that the country it is time for Australia to suppress climate change and global warming to the minimum possible degrees.
“We have some of the world’s best resources: solar, wind, geothermal, wave ... some of the best scientists and innovative businesses,” Mr Butler pointed this out to ABC radio. He went on to say that Labor is willing to collaborate with other stakeholders and organizations to come up with a wholesome approach.
“We are on the verge of yet more technological revolutions and we want to make sure Australia is a beneficiary,” Mr Butler stated.
This 50% renewable energy target would push Australia up to the top of the environment-conscious economies’ list, which consists of Denmark targeting 50% target by 2020, and California also targeting 50 per cent by 2030.
President of Australian Council of Trade Unions, Ged Kearney stated even though many jobs will be lost due to this new technology, several new investments will be established and several new jobs will be created as well.
